Chakrasana, the Wheel Pose, and the Healing Power of Contemplating Yoga Images

Contemplating the following yoga photographs, even if the postures appear too difficult and cannot be performed, can awaken the warming and meaningful essence of life. These asanas inspire inwardness and a contemplative search for truth that enriches and illuminates one’s life.

The Sanskrit name is composed of: Chakra (चक्र), meaning wheel, circle, or chariot wheel, and Asana (आसन), meaning posture, seat, or position.

The following three photographs show the formation of the Wheel Pose from a standing position. Regardless of one’s own ability to perform the posture, these images can serve as a source of inspiration, inner calm, and spiritual enrichment. They may even awaken an inner warmth through the profound meaning they convey.

There is an immeasurable value in allowing the posture to unfold with beautiful dynamism directly from the spine. This is both health-promoting and aesthetically refined. Centering strength in the back and chest while relaxing the limbs, the head, and the shoulders always has a positive effect, as it brings greater articulation to the body and enables it to be used with increased awareness and efficiency.

In the second photograph, one leg is lifted. This variation can further enhance the dynamic quality of the spine when the leg is raised dynamically from the thoracic spine, thereby intensifying the movement’s upward expression.

You can watch this brief visual sequence of Chakrasana in order to once again absorb and experience the dynamic movement of the spine. The piano music in the background can support a meditative and peaceful contemplation.
